Undoubtedly one of the greatest Playwrights of all time and he has left a huge footprint over contemporary drama and will no doubt continue to do so in the future. I was lucky enough to have met him a few times while working at the National and Hampstead Theatres during University breaks and he was charismatic, enigmatic and yet always willing to engage; his premieres were always moments of great importance and significance and it was always evident you were witnessing the work of a great stylist and a philosopher of the stage. If you look beyond the seeming banality of the speech and the incessant circumlocution in his plays, the style is clear and the beautiful poetry of his language sparkles. If you can’t get to a Pinter play read them-always intriguing and fascinating to get to the core of each-the ambiguity in them keeps them fresh…
