Samuel Beckett remains one of the greatest of them all : woefully misunderstood as dour and misanthropic ,he is one of the most philosophical and humorous of all writers-his prose works especially are full of mordant wit and insight. Was lucky enough to have attended a few of his English Premieres in the 1980s-and met him while working at the National on a few occasions and rather foolishly merely waved ‘hello’ rather than getting him to sign copies of his work .He had such an aura about him and you knew you were in the presence of greatness !!!!
